·With new info, Brand to investigate Mayo (AP)
Saying the NCAA has "new information," president Myles Brand promised to investigate former Southern California basketball star O.J. Mayo, who allegedly received thousands of dollars in gifts from money given to an event promoter by a sports agency. On Sunday, ESPN reported thatBill Duffy Associates provided Rodney Guillory with about $200,000 before Mayo arrived at USC.
·Indiana: Self-imposed penalties enough (AP)
Indiana University told the NCAA on Monday that its own self-imposed penalties should be enough to keep the organization from having to punish the school for improper phone calls made by Kelvin Sampson before he resigned as basketball coach. Sampson said he had been judged before he had a chance to present his side to the NCAA.
·Duquesne G Mensah to enter NBA draft (AP)
Kojo Mensah, a junior guard who was one of five Duquesne University basketball players shot on campus in September 2006, is passing up his final season of eligibility to enter the NBA draft. The 6-foot-1 Mensah decided to leave school even though he appears to have little chanceof being drafted. He averaged 12.1 points and shot 38 percent in his lone season at Duquesne.
·NCAA recommends goaltending rule change (AP)
An NCAA committee has recommended changing the goaltending rule so that a ball that is completely above the rim and has already hit the backboard could not be touched, regardless of whether it is on an upward or downward flight. ·Former UCLA star Bill Rankin dies at 84 (AP)
Bill Rankin, a basketball star at UCLA during World War II and after, has died after a long fight with Parkinson's disease. He was 84. Rankin's daughter, Cindy Elliott, told The Associated Press he died Sunday night at his home on Balboa Island. Rankin played guard and forward under coach Wilbur Johns for the Bruins in 1945 and, with time out for the Navy, in 1946 and 1947.

·WVU coach Huggins OK after airport fall (AP)
West Virginia University officials say basketball coach Bob Huggins has been taken to a hospital in Charlotte, N.C., for precautionary reasons after tripping on an airport tarmac and hitting his head on the pavement. Athletic director Ed Pastilong says Huggins had a bump on his head, and never lost consciousness.
