·Gonzaga Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
The Gonzaga program has reached the stage where it is measured by its success in the NCAA Tournament. That in itself tells you Gonzaga is an acknowledged national player in college basketball. And winning an eighth straight regular-season title when the WCC includes another team (St. Mary's) that was nationally ranked much of the season shows the Bulldogs remain one of the powerhouse programs on the West Coast.Howeve ...

·Loyola-marymount Strategy and Personnel
THE GOOD NEWS: The top four scorers will be back next season, and two of them are freshmen. The program has two freshman guards coming in next season who should help first-year boss Bill Bayno turn things around. Isaiah Jenkins was the top-rated recruit last year, but he redshirted this season and may help in 2008-09. THE BAD NEWS: The deficiency in talent is obvious, and the Lions will not have nearly as much tale ...
·Loyola-marymount Getting Inside
Coach Rodney Tention arrived as a touted former assistant of Arizona legend Lute Olson and was hailed as a savior when the team finished second in his first season and made it to the WCC tournament championship game. But things have been rough the past two seasons, last year because of injuries and in 2007-08 because of youth. Tention resigned amidst speculation that he might be fired in mid-March. He was replace ...
·Loyola-marymount Notes, Quotes
FINAL RECORD: 5-26 overall, 2-12 WCC, eighth place. WHAT WENT RIGHT: The Lions were almost injury-free. The top six scorers missed only one game among them, and the top three players -- Orlando Johnson, Shawn Deadwiler and Tim Diederichs -- played every game, which is important for a young team that needs experience. Johnson and Diederichs may have exceeded expectations for freshmen.

·Pepperdine Getting Inside
Rarely does a team that loses 21 games and goes through a season of turmoil have a promising future, but that is the case for the Waves. The Waves are a team loaded with talented freshmen, who weathered the unexpected resignation of their coach at midseason, and actually improved under interim coach Eric Bridgeland.
·Pepperdine Notes, Quotes
FINAL RECORD: 11-21 overall, 4-10 in conference, sixth place. WHAT WENT RIGHT: The team held together and even seemed to play better when Eric Bridgeland took over. It definitely improved late in the season. Even when it lost, it was usually in the game until the end. The Feb. 16 victory over Santa Clara was the Waves' only win over a team in the top four of the conference and was the high point of the season.
·Pepperdine Strategy and Personnel
THE GOOD NEWS: WCC schools usually get coaches on their way up, but teams have done well with coaches on the way down the status ladder -- Paul Westhead at Loyola Marymount being the prime example. Tom Asbury moved to Kansas State after his success at Pepperdine, and he knowsthe school, the area and the conference. He has a lot of young talent with which to work, especially Tyrone Shelley and Malcolm Thomas, and near ...

·Portland Getting Inside
Whenever Portland avoids last place it is a victory of sorts for the Pilots, who historically have been the worst program in the conference. This season they finished seventh, which is exactly where they were expected to finish. For the 10th straight season, Portland failed to have a winning overall record, and for the 13th consecutive year it did not have a winning conference mark.
·Portland Notes, Quotes
FINAL RECORD: 9-22 overall, 3-11 in the conference, seventh place. WHAT WENT RIGHT: The Pilots did not have many injuries and a lot of players got significant playing time. They played their best game on the final weekend of the regular season -- a win over Santa Clara -- and a lineup change Eric Reveno made late in the season seemed to improve the team, although it did not produce many wins.
·Portland Strategy and Personnel
THE GOOD NEWS: Freshman Luke Sikma showed early-season flashes of becoming a top-flight player. Nearly all the new players played immediately, and they figure to improve next season when they have a season of experience under their belts. The team is starting to take on the identity of its coach, Eric Reveno, who wants to create the same kind of team he played for at Stanford -- good rebounding, tough, fundamental de ...

·San Diego Getting Inside
The San Diego program is probably at its highest level ever, and it should do nothing but improve nest season. The Toreros return everyone on the roster next season, including all-conference players Brandon Johnson and Gyno Pomare. Over the last few games, Pomare demonstrated that he is capable of playing against the best competition in the country, and if he can attain that level often enough next year, he should ...
·San Diego Strategy and Personnel
THE GOOD NEWS: Everybody is back, including coach Bill Grier, and the outstanding finish to the season should have some carry-over effect into next season. The team should improve in its second season in the Grier system, and freshmen Rob Jones and Trumaine Johnson should getbetter. Brandon Johnson has been the heart of the team the past two years, and that should not change.
·San Diego Notes, Quotes
FINAL RECORD: 22-14 overall, 11-3 WCC, 3rd place WHAT WENT RIGHT: The road victory over Kentucky may have been the most impressive win, but the way the team played in March was what will be remembered. Rallying from 13 down with 7 1/2 minutes left to beat St. Mary's in double overtime showed the team's heart, but not as much as comingback less than 24 hours later and knocking off perennial WCC power Gonzaga.
