·Sun Belt Conference Preview
With 11 teams, there's no time for easing into things as the SBC battles begin in the third weekend of the season. But the important thing is that the respect level of the conference is gaining ground nationally. Three teams went to the Big Dance last June and multiple bids will be on the menu again for 2008. The arms of UL-Lafayette and the moxie of New Orleans will be on full display this season. And of course, Tro ...
·LSU Coach Les Miles To Throw Out First Pitch At First Game
LSU football coach Les Miles will throw out the first pitch Friday night prior to the baseball team's season opener at 7 p.m. versus Indiana in Alex Box Stadium.
·Southern Conference Preview
You'd have to say that 2007 was a breakout year for the SoCon, Western Carolina went to the Regional finals and Wofford proved that a last place team could make it to the Big Dance as well. So while this remains a two-bid league, 2008 may call for even bigger and better things.
·Southwest Athletic Conference Preview
Prairie View A&M has completely turned the tables on the SWAC, going from a paltry three wins in all of 2003 to back-to-back SWAC titles and NCAA appearances. The good news is that PVAMU's success should give hope to any downtrodden program that is looking to reverseits fortunes. The bad news for the rest of the conference is that it doesn't appear as if the Panthers are going away anytime soon. So even though the ra ...
·Southeastern Conference Preview
From the Big Dance snubs to another winless trip to Omaha to the firings of two CWS-caliber head coaches to the getting chastised for weak scheduling, 2007 was a pretty horrible year by SEC standards. Really, just five NCAA tournament teams?
·Patriot League Preview
The Patriot League proves why it is one of the smarter leagues in the country once again. This time, in the way it decides its champion. Starting this year, the PL will break down into four teams at the end of the regular season, 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 and play a best-of-three. Those winners will then face off in another best-of-three a week later to determine who gets the NCAA bid. Not bad.
·Pac-10 Conference Preview
Because there are way too many polls and rankings out there, the Pac-10 is the only conference that can boast three preseason No. 1 teams: UCLA in Baseball America, Arizona in Collegiate Baseball and Arizona State in the USA Today coaches' poll. And the conference will be deep this year too, with teams like Cal, Stanford, USC and Oregon State - in particular - loaded with future high-round draftees. So everything poi ...
·Omaha Mayor's Group Backs New Baseball Stadium
-The College World Series could get a new home in Omaha. A committee appointed by Mayor Mike Fahey unanimously recommended building a new stadium for college baseball's marquee event Monday in two of the Qwest Center Omaha's parking lots. The group believes the plan is the best option for the community and the best way to secure a long-term NCAA contract for the College World Series. "The College World Series is an i ...
·Northeast Conference Preview
How wide open is this conference? Last year's top two teams were the first two to be eliminated in the post-season tournament. That's what makes the NEC one of the better tournaments to watch in college baseball year-in, year-out. That pretty much explains the regular season grind as well, since there were co-champions last season. However, if there was one thing that I could change about this conference, it would be ...
·Ohio Valley Conference Preview
Did you see that near-upset in last June's NCAA tournament where Austin Peay scared the bejesus out of national No. 1 seed Vanderbilt? What a great bit of P.R. that was for the OVC. Though they'll be the favorites, the rest of the pack isn't exactly far behind the Governors in this year's title chase. If they don't keep their nose to the grindstone, the OVC will be a wide open affair.

·Speedy Fordham leads NCAA in stolen bases (AP)
Nick Restaino has a bunch of thieves on his Fordham baseball team. They don't think twice about stealing, and the Rams coach wholeheartedly encourages all the pilfering. "We've got guys who can run and really steal bases," Restaino said. "And speed kills in sports, right?" It sure does, and it also can help you win ballgames.

·Hutts' death brings Georgia Tech players closer (AP)
The mention of Michael Hutts caused Charlie Blackmon to pause, swallow hard, and look at the ground for a few seconds before responding. The pain felt by Blackmon and his Georgia Tech teammates following Hutts' April 11 death is still sharp and obvious. Blackmon said players turned to each other when seeking comfort after the pitcher's sudden death.
·Slugging Shehan leads Georgia Southern's potent offense (AP)
Chris Shehan and his Georgia Southern teammates shake their heads when they think about what their potent offense is doing this season. ·AP NewsBreak: Omaha, NCAA reach CWS deal (AP)

A long-term contract has been in the works for months, with much of the discussion centered on the construction of a new downtown ballpark toreplace 60-year-old Rosenblatt Stadium.
